The Coop Chronicles: Crafting Feathery Dreams from Marketplace Finds

Embarking on my chicken-keeping journey, fate smiled upon me when my brother offered me his lovingly raised hens. Ecstatic about welcoming these feathery companions into my life, a critical piece was missing – a coop. The tale begins with a Facebook Marketplace discovery that seemed like a serendipitous solution. Little did I know, this was just the first chapter in a coop-building adventure filled with surprises, family bonding, and a touch of carpentry wisdom. Join me as I recount the journey from a modest Facebook find to the creation of what my family lovingly calls the "Penthouse" of chicken coops, with a few unexpected twists along the way.

Part 1: Embarking on my chicken adventure, the stars aligned when my brother offered me hens he had lovingly raised. There was just one catch—I needed a coop. Enter Facebook Marketplace and a stroke of luck. My husband discovered a coop listing, and off we went to bring it home. Excitement filled the air as I envisioned my feathered friends settling into their new abode.

Reality struck when my dad, the “seasoned coop critic”, assessed the coop's size and deemed it too small. Undeterred, I hatched a new plan.

Part 2: Amazon came to the rescue with a 4ft by 6ft run kit, and armed with leftover wood from my garden box project, I set out to build a small coop box. However, lacking a concrete plan, my coop dreams hit a roadblock. It was then that my dad, the holiday hero, offered to help me build a coop based on a plan I had purchased in my early dream of chicken-keeping days.

With modifications in mind, we dove into the project. The process became a masterclass in carpentry, courtesy of my dad. The result? A coop that my family affectionately dubs the "Penthouse" of chicken coops—a testament to both dreams and craftsmanship.

Part 3: The coop, though a marvel, was not complete. The next chapter in my chicken saga involves building the run, the final piece to bring my chicken girls home. Stay tuned as I share the trials and triumphs of creating a haven for my feathered companions – the finishing touch to my backyard chicken dreams.

As the coop takes shape, there's a sense of accomplishment in each nail driven and every board carefully placed. Yet, the story doesn't end here. The coop stands tall, a testament to the fusion of dreams, family collaboration, and newfound carpentry skills. In the upcoming chapters, we'll dive into the final phase – constructing the run and preparing the stage for the arrival of my cherished chicken companions. Stay tuned for the unfolding tale of feathered dreams, where each nail hammered and every coop detail weaves a narrative of passion, perseverance, and the joys of crafting a haven for my clucking friends. The coop chronicles continue, promising more surprises, challenges, and the triumph of a dream brought to life.
